2024年6月8日に岩手県北上市みちのく民族村で開催された「リレー・フォー・ライフ・ジャパンきたかみ2024」に第501軍団日本部隊の有志が参加しました。
「リレー・フォー・ライフ」とは、がん患者さんやそのご家族を支援し、地域全体でがんと向き合い、がん征圧をめざすチャリティー活動です。
会場となった「みちのく民俗村」は、北上川流域とその周辺の茅葺民家を移築復元した東北有数の野外博物館で、山間約7ヘクタールの敷地に、南部曲り家などの茅葺民家10棟のほか、大正建築の佇まいを残した旧黒沢尻高等女学校の校舎など18棟、合計28棟が点在し、どこか懐かしい風景のなかで昔のくらしを学び、四季折々の草花に出会うことができる素敵な場所です。
開会式で記念撮影と準備体操をした後に各グループ毎にスタート位置で紹介を受けました。
今回は18団体が参加し、第501軍団は12番目にスタートしました。
当日は快晴で最高気温は26℃。
汗ばむ暑さの下ウォークしましたが、沢山の参加者から「暑い中お疲れ様です。」「無理しないでくださいね。」と労いの言葉を受け、お礼の言葉を述べたりスター・ウォーズやコスチュームのお話をしながら皆さんと楽しくウォークできました。
途中、メインステージでは様々な催しが行われ、北上ミューズコーラス隊の合唱や藤原翼さんの津軽三味線演奏に酔いしれたり、フラ友さんのゴスペルフラ、松本竜季さんのスクワットをしように参加して楽しみました。
最後は歩きながら仲良くなった少年とスカウトトルーパーとストームトルーパーが手を繋いでゴールしました。
今回の「リレー・フォー・ライフ・ジャパンきたかみ2024」の参加人数は327名、寄附金額は1,115,552円となりました。

Volunteers from the 501st Corps Japan participated in the “Relay for Life Japan Kitakami 2024” held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Michinoku Folk Village in Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture.
Relay for Life” is a charity activity to support cancer patients and their families, and to help the entire community face cancer and conquer it.
The “Michinoku Folk Village,” the venue of the event, is one of the leading outdoor museums in the Tohoku region, which is a reconstruction of thatched houses in the Kitakami River basin and its surrounding area.
It is a wonderful place where visitors can learn about the old lifestyle in a nostalgic landscape and encounter seasonal flowers and plants.
After a commemorative photo and preparatory exercises at the opening ceremony, each group was introduced at their starting position. Eighteen groups participated in this year’s event, and the 501st corps was the 12th to start.
The day was sunny with a high temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.
We walked in the sweaty heat, and many participants said, “Thank you for your hard work in the heat. Please don’t overexert yourself. We enjoyed walking with them, saying thank you and talking about Star Wars and costumes.
During the walk, various events were held on the main stage, and we enjoyed the chorus of the Kitakami Muse Chorus, Tsubasa Fujiwara’s Tsugaru shamisen performance, Hula Tomo’s gospel hula, and Ryuki Matsumoto’s squats.
At the end of the event, the Scout Troopers and Storm Troopers joined hands with a boy they had become friends with while walking to the goal.
The number of participants in this year’s Relay for Life Japan Kitakami 2024 was 327 and the amount donated was 1,115,552 yen.
